Steps for writing the Research Paper:
1. Select a general topic and one of the works we have studies this year from the hand out. (click here)
2. Create and arguable claim that would relate to the topic and literary work you selected in step 1. Use the thesis
     guidlines below in document number 2. Have your thesis approved by Mr. Troha before proceeding.
3. Using the guidelines in document # 3 below, write an introductory paragraph for your topic. (You will be revising
    this later) Submit to Turnitin.com
4. Using the Introductory Paragraph as a springboard for ideas, free write about your topic. Write without
    Correcting. Do not edit or erase. Write as fast as you can and put down as many ideas that might be related.
   (2 pages hanwritten - this will be page 10 in your notebook.)
5. Pre-writing strategy - organization of ideas. Read your free write and select the five most important ideas in the work. Write those on a seperate page (page 9). Then re-read the free write and select all of the other ideas and write them on page 9 under the main idea they match. You may use any form of outline or graph - just show the five main ideas and the minor ideas that are related to each of them.
6. Select one of your main ideas and write a five-sentence paragraph following the guidelines in document #4 below. Only do steps 1-5. This will be body paragraph 1. Submit to Turnitin.com
7. Repeat step 6 with another of your five, main ideas to write body paragraph 2. (Still only the first five steps)Submit to Turnitin.com
8. Repeat step 6 with another of your five, main ideas to write body paragraph 3. (Still only the first five steps)Submit to Turnitin.com
9. Repeat step 6 with another of your five, main ideas to write body paragraph 4. (Still only the first five steps)Submit to Turnitin.com
10. Repeat step 6 with another of your five, main ideas to write body paragraph 5. (Still only the first five steps)Submit to Turnitin.com
11. Add a quote to each paragraph from the literature you selected. (Sentence #4)
12. Find and add a quote from an outside source to each paragraph (Sentence #7)
13. Complete each of the five paragraphs following the ten step template in Paragraph Guidelines #4 below. Submit to Turnitin.com
14. Revise your Introductory Paragraph as necessary
15. Type your paper putting the paragraphs in appropriate order and adding transitions if necessary. Follow the guidelines on the Research Paper Rubric. (click here for rubric)
16. After typing your paper, write a concluding psaragraph which sums up your paper and re-states your thesis statement.
17. Add your works cited page. Follow the format as shown in the sample below.
