NAP ADVISORY
FederigosFalcon
Hello Parents and Students!
In April of the 2009-2010 school year a few students approached our principal, Mr. Bayer, about the possibility of creating a "nap opportunity" during the school day. They cited some of the research on teens and sleep deprivation - and they got Mr. Bayer's attention. With Mr. Bayer's encouragementy, we have begun a pilot program to study the effects of a nap on students' grades, moods, and level of alertness.
Three teachers have signed on to study the Nap Advisory and to help track the academic and personal effects of the nap. The teachers are Ms. Ogonowski, Mr. Daugherty, and Mr. Troha. Each student's third-period teacher has approved their students who are participating. Mr. Bayer and Ms. Allen have also reviewed the list and given their approval.
Participating students are also required to obtain parental permission. Student's will not be permitted to attend the nap advisory until a note from a parent is on file.
The Nap Advisory will have a zero tolerance policy for any students with behaviour or attendance issues. Students who come to school late on a regular basis will be removed from the advisory. Students with behavior problems in any aspect of the school day will also be dropped.
Students will be provided a safe environment in which to nap. They will be monitored, but afforded as much privacy as possible.
Participants will be allowed to bring a pillow and some type of floor mat or cushion. Blankets are not permitted except as a floor cushion. Students who wish, may wear sweat shirts and/or pants over their uniforms
The Nap Advisory is not a joke - it is a serious attempt to investigate a possible strategy to improve student performance. Students whose grades decline during the study will be asked to withdraw from the program.
